LET THE GAMES BEGIN…

It’s been a while since my last post, reason being I’m going through the process of changing my blog to a new site. I’ve been toying around with iWeb as I’m a Mac user but iWeb is very limited and I’ve got plans to give more to my readers than just written posts. Stick with me as I don’t think this site is going to be anywhere near complete for at least another week. I’m literally learning html code and css from scratch, boring I know.

So the season has kicked off and the last week has mainly been spent on the road. We didn’t get the result we wanted from Carlisle away but we have learnt a lot just from that one game. The lads were dissapointed and thankfully had the Carling Cup game to correct the performance.

We started our trip to Carlisle last Thursday and we trained first. We then got on our team coach and headed to Lilleshall where we planned to stay for the night. The coach journey is a good way to get the banter flying. Some lads like to watch films or read books and others like to play cards. I had a dabble at a game of Poker but after losing all my chips to Micky Spillane on the first hand I decided to call it a day on my card games especially as we were only 20 minutes into the journey!!! At Lilleshall we had our own rooms, as you can see from below…

Once we had dinner we had a few hours spare and I decided to get a Table Tennis tournament with the lads on the go. Even though I fancied myself at ping pong the trophy had to go to new signing Gary Alexander. Toumani and Spillane held their own but I have to say Karleigh Osbourne should never pick up a bat ever again!!!

Here’s me and Toumani having it out…

and here’s me in the Lilleshall gardens…

Friday morning we trained at Lilleshall and then left for the 2nd part of our journey to Carlisle. I love these trips as I’m a big kid and its great watching films, playing games/pranks and just being involved in the team banter. We arrived in Carlisle and before dinner. I shared a room with my close mate Richard Lee but I think the room cleaners thought we were closer than ‘close’, as you can see by our beds that they had made as one…!

Saturday was the start of our season and you could feel the excitement/anticipation and nerves around the place.  It was good to get the lads used to that feeling again and even though we have played pre season games, you can’t capture the feeling of League games as there’s a certain pressure that gives you that buzz. Like I said the result didn’t go to plan but as a good friend said to me “it’s the ideal place to lose: there’s a long time to think about it on the way back”!. The journey home wasn’t one I want to experience too often. It’s not very pleasant when you’ve won there, let alone losing. The lads got together and had a chat about what went wrong and then we have to make sure we keep the spirit high as it’s a marathon not a sprint, there’s a long way to go!

Here’s me checking the pitch out before the game…

Since then we’ve managed to beat Cheltenham in the first round of the League Cup and now we have an exciting home fixture against Hull City. It’s one I’m sure the players and the fans are looking forward too! We are now preparing for Walsall at home this weekend and let’s hope the work we are putting in pays off, see you there…

If anyone wants to join my fantasy football league feel free to join in, Metro Fantasy Football reckon you can beat me??? ;0)
